![]() ![]() One of my favorite moments with Ashley had to be her stint as a crane operator as she used a wrecking ball to break through a concrete wall. Gone are the shrill screams every time she jumps from a tall-ish ledge instead, she shows guts in the face of danger. I’m not a fan of escort missions, but this felt less like protecting a helpless kitten and more like having a useful and intelligent partner that could be helpful in sticky situations. I also warmed to Ashley more this time around. It was nice not to put a face to the ultimate bad guy straightaway it made meeting Saddler in the flesh for the first time far more memorable. This time around, I felt like the cult leader Saddler and his right-hand man Lord Salazar were frightening and intimidating. A style and substance two for one dealĪpart from the epic fights, I felt as if this remake excelled at cleaning up the narrative of the original. While it may be hard at first, Resident Evil 4 has a strict code of conduct, and as long as you see it through and play by the rules, it won’t stab you in the back. There was never a glitchy NPC that attacked me during one of my finishing kills or a crazily overpowered boss that I had to cheat my way through. Every time I died in combat, it was always my fault. I never once found myself caught out on an invisible ledge that prevented me from dishing out an assassination or circling my target desperately trying to find the stealth kill prompt. This was a fight of strategy as much as firepower there’s nothing quite like feeling strong and smart while beating up your enemies.Įven the stealth was thrilling and smooth. Every time you fire a shot or accidentally knock a hanging chain, Garrador will pinpoint your location and charge full pace at you like a blade-covered bull. Trapped in a small chamber, there’s nowhere to hide. The Resident Evil 4 remake has a strict code of conduct, and as long as you see it through and play by the rules, it won’t stab you in the back The deformed alien-like creature was smart, swift, and powerful every move you made had to be pinpoint accurate otherwise, you’d end up impaled on its scorpion-like tail. The Verdugo’s design immediately captivated me it’s horrific, and I wouldn’t want to face up against it in real life, but getting to fight this monstrous beast was thrilling. Despite the difficulty of monsters like the xenomorph-esque Verdugo and the blind but vicious Garrador, the experience was memorable in all the right ways. In addition to some new mechanics for Resident Evil 4 Remake's Ganados making them more of a threat, the remake seems poised to deliver more of the horror aspects of Resident Evil. Many of the bigger fights also stood out to me. Some of the game's slightly shifted tone can be seen in the demo and in trailers, with the game's enhanced visuals allowing for darker, more atmospheric environments and more gruesome depictions of Resident Evil's signature body horror elements. Moreover, while the remake looks to be keeping the original's B movie cheese, developers have also stated that the horror elements of the game will also be getting more attention. In particular, Luis Sera seems to survive until a much later point in the remake's story than in the original. The demo, as well as promotional material, has indicated that the remake will keep the original game's characteristically cheesy tone, with Leon spouting one-liners and bantering with other characters, but some of RE4 remake's trailers potentially spoil big story changes. ![]() While Resident Evil 4's remake does seem to be sticking relatively closely to the story of the original, there are a few signs that the game will also make at least a few significant changes. The last secret is in the village - players who discard their inventory before entering will be able to find a fully upgraded TMP that carries over to subsequent playthroughs in an underground passage. Additionally, the RE4 Remake demo has a secret hard mode, which can be accessed randomly or through a secret code. The first relates to the last step of the game's ARG, which requires that players enter the last word of writing on an interactable crude charm in a side room of the demo's first house. Aside from the showy buildup to its release, however, Resident Evil 4's Chainsaw Demo also holds a few curious secrets in its gameplay.Īlthough it mainly serves to let players try the remake's opening, the Chainsaw Demo has secrets for dedicated players to find. Although originally announced in vague terms, a mini-prequel ARG at provided plenty of clues for RE4 Remake's demo release date - eventually pointing players to the recent Capcom Showcase's Twitch stream, where the demo's same-day release was announced. Recently released on March 9, the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo lets players experience the game up until the end of the village survival section - around a little more than half of the original game's first chapter. ![]()
